Horse Therapy
At Basara Horse Garden, our team of child counselors, who have a deep connection with horses and have personally experienced the positive impact of these majestic animals during challenging times, assist children and their parents in unwinding and clearing their minds.
What is Equine assisted psychotherapy?
It is an experiential therapy that enhances mental and physical well-being, as well as cognitive functions, through interactions with horses.
Equine-assisted psychotherapy originated in the United States during the 1960s, where psychotherapists began incorporating horses into their therapeutic practices.
Interestingly, horses have been used for therapeutic purposes since ancient times, dating back to the Greeks and Romans.
Despite being less known in Japan, this therapy is widely embraced overseas, benefiting individuals of all ages, from children to veterans dealing with PTSD (trauma). Studies have shown that the unique combination of the horse’s large, powerful, yet gentle presence can offer therapeutic benefits superior to traditional counseling methods held within enclosed rooms.
